On the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Lebanon, the Embassy of Lebanon in Nigeria has organized a reception on the 23rd of November on the Rooftop of the Embassy building at 4 Cape Town Street, Abuja. The Event was hosted by the Ambassador H.E Mr. Houssam Diab and was attended by the director of Trade and Investment cooperation Mrs. Folake Abdulrazaq, representing the Honorable Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama and a number of accredited ambassadors from various diplomatic missions, the Inspector General of Police and other Senators and official from the Federal Capital of Nigeria, and by a large number of the Lebanese community in Abuja and surrounding states, in addition to Media representatives and other associations.
H.E Ambassador Diab, delivered a speech in which he congratulated the Lebanese community on their 75th Anniversary of the Independence Day of Lebanon and through them he extended the congratulations to the President of the Lebanese Republic, H.E General Michel Aoun. He thanked the Nigerian Government for its support to the Lebanese community praising them for their accomplishments, and sent a message for greater cooperation between Lebanon and Nigeria.
The Independence Day celebration included an extensive program that was very much admired by the attendees. The program included:
- Recycling Program: Decoration of the venue from recycled material created by a group of Lebanese and Nigerian children and which included a Map and a flag of Lebanon.
- Tasty Lebanon: In which 14 Lebanese restaurants operating in Abuja promoted their Lebanese cuisine and tasted the Lebanese wine under the program of “Tasty Lebanon”. Lebanese food manufactures “Gardenia” and “Lebanese Mooneh” were also promoted at the event.
- Lebanese Diaspora Energy: An announcement and a banner for LDE was displayed inviting the Lebanese Community to sign for the annual Lebanese Diaspora Energy conference on 7, 8 & 9 June 2019 in Beirut, Lebanon.
- Diaspora ID: A large banner was displayed and an announcement was made inviting the Lebanese community to register online using the DiasporaID application, a strong platform that we have adopted to connect with our Lebanese community in Nigeria.
- Football Tournament: The program included a football tournament “Abuja Unity Cup 2018” sponsored by the Embassy of Lebanon in collaboration with Forza Football Nigeria on the 9th of December, 2018 at City Bridge Complex, City Park, Wuse 2, Abuja. The Tournament includes various embassies, hospitality industry and other corporate teams who will be competing for the chance to win the championship trophy.
