Background

 Lebanon School Kano is a co-educational school for children aged 3 -18 years old, it was established in 1964 to meet the educational requirements of the children of the Lebanese community living in or around the environs of Kano.

The School is a non-profit organisation that supports itself financially mainly from fees paid by students. The school is certified by the Ministry of Education of Nigeria and is under the control of the Lebanese Consulate. It is built on the grounds housing the Lebanese Consulate and the office of the Honorable Consul. A Board of Trustees acts as the governing body of the school.

Curriculum and Academics

The school is a member of over 10,000 Cambridge Schools in more than 160 countries around the world and follows the British Cambridge curriculum in all Key stages from Nursery to Year 13. This curriculum is divided into five key stages. These are:

  • Foundation/Key Stage 0: Nursery – KGs
  • Key Stage 1: Year 1-2
  • Key Stage 2: Year 3-6
  • Key Stage 3: Year 7-9
  • Key Stage 4: Year 10-1
  • Key Stage 5: Year 12-13

English is the language of instruction for all subjects. 
All students in (KS 0-3) are also required to study Arabic. Arabic Language is taught in accordance with the Lebanese National curriculum. 

External Examinations

Students are prepared to sit for internationally recognized examinations at the ends of the KS2 (Year 6/Primary Checkpoint), KS3 (Year 9/Secondary Checkpoint), KS4 (Year 11/CIE GCSE, O Levels) and KS5 (Year 12/CIE AS Level and Year 13/CIE Advanced Level). 
In addition to this, the school also prepares students in Years 11 and 12 for the SAT I examinations. 

British Council Affiliation

Lebanon School Kano is an accredited Centre for all examinations conducted by the British Council, Kano Office, it is currently the only school that teaches the Cambridge Advanced level course and are the Centre for all Advanced level practical examinations for candidates in the region. 

Performance and Testimony
Over the years, performance has been excellent; Achieving among the highest aggregate examination scores for the O-level, A-level and SAT examinations recorded by the respective boards; Given high accreditation by the British Council Nigeria, and made a Centre for the external written examinations supervised by the Council, following a visit by inspectors from the University of Cambridge (CIE,UK)

Also, within the last three years, the school has received awards in Academic excellence including:

  • National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Best School of the Year Award (2016)
  • Best Cambridge Results in Nigeria (Arabic O Level/2016,2017;Accounting O Level/2017;Accounting A Level/2017) 
  • Third Place in Nigeria for Our World Competition 2018 (British Council)
  • Recognition Award from the Lebanese General Consul (Lagos) 2018
These results have also enabled students to gain admission into the sophomore level of universities in Lebanon and abroad.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The school has activities on a monthly basis, that are planned and included in the school calendar. Each department is in charge of the organisation of an event. Such as Nigeria Independence Day organised by the Social Sciences Department and Lebanese Independence Day Organised by the Arabic Department.

Other activities include bake sales, football matches, field trips, fund raiser for different charities etc.
